This flagship model(top of the range) was Launched in 1985, the 560SL convertible was the latest in Mercedes-Benz’s line of luxury sports cars that could be traced back to the 230SL of 1963. with the 560SL R107 bodyshell had debuted on the 350SL (introduced late in 1970) and this timeless style would continue in production for another five years.
The 560SL was specifically created for the North American market where the 380SL was being challenged by privately imported examples of the more powerful, European-market 500SL model. Powered by a 5. 5-litre, overhead-camshaft V8 engine, the 560SL emphatically redressed the balance, producing 227bhp to the US-market 380SL’s 155, an output good enough for a top speed of 137mph with 60mph reachable in 8 seconds.
