1980 Talbot Sunbeam, Ti 1600 Engine, Weber 40’s, Future Escort, Barn Find, Project
For Sale is my Talbot Sunbeam with a built Ti engine.
History
Before i bought the car 6 years ago it was sitting in dry storage for around 20 years. The previous owner (a Talbot Tech at the time) used to Hill climb Avengers and moved over to this Sunbeam. He replaced the engine for a built Ti 1600 unit with a balanced crank and flywheel, uprated camshaft and twin Weber 40’s. Sadly he never got around to finishing it and didn’t get to a Hill climbing event with this motor.
When i received the Sunbeam it required a bit of re-assembly and restoration. I replaced the doors with GRP items i found from an ex rally car locally and swapped out the rear windows for lightweight plastic variants. I painted the inside of the floor pan and installed the OMP seats and harnesses. I also went through the brake system replacing lines, fitting remanufactured callipers and installing a hydraulic handbrake.
I MOT’d it in 2015 and used it on the road and competed in an AutoSolo championship for two years and did fairly well. I couldn’t afford the time it would take to upgrade it for Hill Climb events which is what i wanted to do so sadly it has sat since then.
Current Condition
The car is currently garaged and i have been through the carbs so it runs and drives for the new owner to view and load it onto a trailer.
The bodywork is straight but is in poor condition with rust. It will require a fair amount of surgery but this is the time to catch it before it gets any worse. I think it needs 2x rear arches and sills with a few other patches here and there.
The pictures show an accurate condition of the car and how it sits today. The car + the spares package will go with this sale…..
